Hollywood favorite Colman Domingo has surprised fans with a bold and glamorous transformation in Sabrina Carpenter’s latest music video for “Tears.”
The Emmy-winning actor, who first honed his craft in San Francisco, joins Carpenter in the theatrical, Rocky Horror Picture Show-inspired production. The video serves as the visual for “Tears,” the second single from her newly released album “Man’s Best Friend.”
Colman Domingo’s Show-Stopping Drag Performance
Released on Thursday, Aug. 28, the five-minute video takes viewers inside a mysterious mansion full of eccentric characters. Carpenter, styled in a role reminiscent of Janet Weiss (played by Susan Sarandon in the 1975 cult classic), stumbles into the house after a car crash and is soon swept into the wild world of Colman Domingo’s dazzling drag persona.
Domingo appears in glittering attire, fishnet stockings, towering stilettos, and dramatic wigs, channeling a character that pays homage to Tim Curry’s Frank-N-Furter. He lip-syncs and dances alongside Carpenter, creating a bold and playful atmosphere that has quickly captured fan attention.

Sabrina Carpenter on Working With Domingo
Speaking about the collaboration during an interview with CBS Mornings on Aug. 29, Carpenter praised Domingo’s enthusiasm and professionalism:
“He showed up and learned everything right away. He wanted to try on every wig, corset, and pair of heels. It felt like we were just kids playing dress-up,” Carpenter shared.
The singer revealed she first met Domingo at a party and instantly thought of him while working on the track. “I’ve been such a huge fan of his. I always wanted to collaborate with him but never imagined how it could happen—until now,” she added.

A Surprise Cameo for a Big Release
The release of “Tears” coincided with Carpenter’s highly anticipated seventh studio album, “Man’s Best Friend,” which dropped Friday, Aug. 29. Domingo’s role was kept secret until the video premiere, although he hinted at his involvement on social media just hours before its debut.
“About to break the internet. Tears. Protect all the Dolls,” Domingo teased on X, referencing a phrase often used to support and uplift trans women.
Not long after, he returned with another playful post: “Didn’t see that coming, did ya?”
Why This Collaboration Matters
Domingo, who earned an Oscar nomination in 2024 for his portrayal of civil rights leader Bayard Rustin in “Rustin,” continues to show his versatility with this unexpected performance. His ability to merge artistry, advocacy, and entertainment not only amplifies the message of inclusion but also elevates Carpenter’s theatrical vision.
